The once tired and neglected George & Dragon Pub in Dartmouth has now undergone a major transformation and redevelopment into a new “Destination Venue”. This new attraction in Dartmouth includes a huge new Main Bars plus a seasonal Garden Bar, a Coffee and Cake Shop, the unique - Boat Room Restaurant and a fabulous paved Beer Garden for alfresco dining (the only Beer Garden in Dartmouth!).
At the new George & Dragon we invite you to come and see the ‘Tardis-like’ venue that we have created. We have tried to blend old and new, retaining original features where we could and creating new seating and dining areas where you can 'Dine with the Dragons', or enjoy a sumptuous meal in our new Boat Room Restaurant that is uniquely and individually decorated with hand-drawn Wall-Art of ships from all ages on the River Dart and in Dartmouth Harbour, by talented Local Artist Paul Barclay. You can also enjoy our own blend of coffee and homemade cakes, or cream teas with homemade scones from our Coffee & Dessert Bars, or of course, simply have drinks and relax in the Bars or our Beer Garden.
We have the ONLY BEER GARDEN IN DARTMOUTH, where customers can enjoy sunshine or rest in the shade of our Giant Umbrellas and Rising Screen windbreaks to enjoy our refreshments.
The George and Dragon has been a Public House for nearly 200 years and was originally situated next to a line of Shipbuilders that reached along the foreshore that is now Mayors Avenue and the Car Park to Coronation Park and beyond. Dartmouth once rivalled Plymouth and Portsmouth in importance for both shipbuilding and as a South Coast Naval base. Our sun-trap garden wall is the last remaining visible evidence of these former industrial buildings adjacent to our site – Now the Marks & Spencer Food Store and then Travis Perkins.
Whether you are joining us for our own-blend coffee and homemade cakes, a glass of wine with lunch, an afternoon Cream Tea, a relaxing Evening Dinner, or just a drink – You are always assured of a warm welcome from our friendly staff at The George & Dragon. Check out the Food at the G&D and Drink at the G&D pages.
Why not bring the family to 'Dine with the Dragons' too? Well-behaved children and dogs on a lead are very welcome and will be made to feel very much at home. We're sure the kids will find something yummy on our Homemade Children’s Menu (See page 3) (all homemade homemade from Country Meats, Local Line-caught Fish and Seasonal Local Vegetables wherever possible - with no ghastly reconstituted 'nuggets' or processed and reformed 'fingers' whatsoever!), plus there is always fresh water for your dog inside and out - and usually a tasty treat from behind the bar – with your permission of course! (Note: Dogs are not allowed in our upstairs Boat Room Restaurant (as stipulated by the EHO) except for guide dogs of course.
We are ‘family focused’ but we also take our responsibilities under the new 2014Licensing Act and our 2015 Premises Licence very seriously. This states that "Children are not allowed at the Bars and cannot be served at the Bars; children must also always be accompanied by a responsible adult and are not allowed on the premises at all after 9pm". We are sure that all responsible parents will concur and help us to comply.
We look forward to serving you and your friends and family here at the new George & Dragon very soon.

One of our main attractions is clearly our large, sunny, natural stone paved garden with plenty of attractive quality bench table seating and our huge sun-trap wall. We also ensure that some areas and seating are always protected from too much sun by our Giant umbrellas, which also provide some shelter if the weather is not so cooperative. In addition, there are two rising glazed screens to provide even more protection from the elements! We want you to have a comfortable and enjoyable experience at the new G&D (inside and out) - Whatever the weather!
We are licensed for Live Music inside and also outside during the Summer Season, to entertain our customers, whilst also respecting our lovely neighbours who are predominantly also our good customers all year round.
We have a full programme of Live Music in the garden during the Dart Music Festival in May, when we are proud to be Gold Music Festival Sponsors. For more information check out our Dart Music Festival Page
In addition we also fully participate in providing the entertainment for Dartmouth Royal Regatta in August, with a full Live Music programme – For more details check out our Dartmouth Royal Regatta Page
